This is a pretty common problem. I work for a urologist and the majority of his clients have some form of prostate enlargement. There are several things you can try. The best idea is to find a specialist… you can ask your primary care physician for a referral. The doctor would probably recomment drug therapy to start with. There are many options that can help reduce the tissue inflamation. Depending on your PSA level he may recommend a biopsy to rule out prostate cancer. The main goal is to have satisfaction with your urinary system. If the enlargement is causing severe symptoms such as a weak stream, urinary retention, incotinence or having to force to start urination he may recoment surgery. There are severy options there too. One procedure off hand is a procedure that requires a day or two of hospital recovery its call a "Trans Urethral Resection of the Prostate" aka TURP. Google it… you'll get the details. There are also some minimally invasive procedures done in the office that include "microwave" and something called "PROSTIVA" both are designed to prevent further inflamation and swelling.

Conservative managment is always best so if the drugs work stick with that but if there is a significant alteration in your quality of life seek other options. I would definatly recommend seeing a specialist if you are having symptoms.
    Good luck!

i think this is so bad thing, use Viagra often is not a good way. I think u should relax ( not work so hard) play sport ( swimming , jogging) and the most important thing, u need yr wifees supportting in sexual active. If u can't maintain an erection when having sex, u can put it out and relax lie or sit , then yr wife will help u ( by caress, stroke, suck…) i think u can get it erect again and continue enjoy
    Good Luck

No. You can,t do self assessment. You ca guess from your symptoms. The diagnosis is made by ultrasound examination.

first of all for how long you suffer from this ? drug used in BPH(benign prostate enlargement) is terazosin, tamsulocin and prazosin.
best treatment in BPH is surgery.
    1.transurethral microvave thermotherapy.
    2.trasuretheal resection of prostate.
    3.tranurethral needle ablation.
    4.laproscopic prostatectomy.
    5. open prostatectomy.
